Sam Shepard

Playwright

had his first New York plays, Cowboys and The Rock Garden, produced by Theatre Genesis in 1963. Eleven of his plays have won Obie Awards, including Chicago, The Tooth of the Crime and Curse of the Starving Class. Other award-winning plays include Buried Child (Pulitzer Prize, Obie), Fool for Love (Obie) and A Lie of the Mind (New York Drama Critics Circle, Outer Critics Circle A wards). The 1996 Broadway revival of Buried Child was nominated for a Tony. Shepard’s latest play, A Particle of Dread, premiered in 2014 at Signature. As writer/director, he filmed Far North and Silent Tongue. As an actor he has appeared in numerous films, including The Right Stuff and Black Hawk Down, and can currently be seen in the Netflix series “Bloodline.” Shepard was inducted into the American Academy of Arts and Letters, received the Gold Medal for Drama from the Academy and was inducted into the Theater Hall of Fame.
